Position Title: Head Ice Hockey Coach
Department: Interclgt Athletics/Rec Sports
Term of Assignment: Term
Term End Date, If Applicable: Three year rolling contract
FLSA Status: Exempt = not eligible for overtime
Work Schedule: Variable shift/variable days depending upon playing schedule, recruiting demands and department events
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Travel: 10-25%
Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties: Direct, organize, coach and administer the hockey program.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline / Degree Area:
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: NCAA learning portal proficiency, or passing within one month of hire.
Possess a current CPR certification or have the ability to obtain upon hire.
Required Minimum Work Experience: Demonstrated hockey coaching experience as a head coach or an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I or III level or comparable coaching experience (e.g., experience with a tier I or tier II junior program, major junior program, or minor league professional team, etc.).
No prior involvement with NCA major rules violations.
On- and off-campus recruitment of student athletes.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of NCAA, conference, and NMU compliance rules.
Education and Training-Understanding of NCAA bylaws.
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
Administration and Management-Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Skills:
Instructing-Teaching others how to do something.
Oral and Written Communication-Active listening, speaking, and writing which ensures comprehension and understanding in both the speaker and target audience.
Time Management-Managing one's own time and the time of others.
Social Perceptiveness-Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.

Monitoring-Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

Abilities:
Ability to use various computer software applications including video editing systems.
Ability to organize effectively.
Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
Ability to come up with unusual or original ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.
Ability to establish a good rapport and effective working relationship with student-athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, administrators, college faculty and staff, alumni, professional colleagues, and the general public.

Expertise with video editing systems.
Ability to work effectively under stressful and high-pressure situations.
Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Collegiate hockey playing experience.
Master's Degree.
